Richard, from the USA, has been a regular visitor to Australia, and we formed a friendship after meeting in Brisbane in 2013. I was intrigued by his quirky guitar style, plus, his dry, witty stage patter had me laughing out loud. Whenever Richard was passing through Brisbane, we'd record some tracks. Echoes From The Past is the result. Richard's style is reminiscent of Leo Kottke. Mine is not. If you enjoy acoustic guitar music, I think you'll be surprised by our blend of styles. Bending Air starts in familiar fashion - the first 4 tracks are bright, bouncy, and very much in the Chet Atkins influenced sunny fingerstyle...but then the album turns decidedly darker with the war-themed 'Guernica'.The following tracks stay in a sombre mode, but things start to cheer up with a medley of 3 Australian traditional tunes. As always, there are some cover arrangements. The Beatles epic 'A Day in the Life' with the Winterbreak Music Camp guitar group re-creating the orchestral cacophany.Some special guests feature too: gorgeous harmonies on 'Poetic Justice' by Christine Collister, BV's and flute by Brisbane's own Sarah Calderwood.
