e news August - November, Europe tour, ukelele meets Alzheimers

Hello everyone,

Isn’t the year racing past? I’ve just completed a fantastic tour of Qld - ‘Acoustic Guitar Spectacular’ with Sarah Koppen & Andrea Valeri. We had a brilliant time on the road together. I put together a short video that hopefully captures the feeling of the tour. Maybe you’ll see yourself in one of the audience shots...

This week I’m heading down to Melbourne; Im one of the tutors alongside Richard Smith, Stuie French, and of course, Tommy, at the annual Tommy Emmanuel Guitar Retreat. (This event is ‘sold out’.)

Next on the agenda is my annual Europe tour, starting with the Tuscany Guitar Camp, with Andrea Valeri, and Francois Sciortino. The tour has been extended this year to include 2 weeks in China, & a week in the UK performing with my buddy Christine Collister

I have a friend in Germany who is doing wonderful work with kids with disabilities...Dirk Jungbluth, a luthier, teaches kids to make their own Ukeleles & instruments made from cigar boxes & tuna cans! Now, he’s taking music students into retirement homes & presenting concerts for people with Dementia and Alzheimer's Syndrome - with amazing results. For his work, he has been nominated for a €1000 prize, winner selected by public vote…

It´s a campaign called "People make it possible" (Menschen machen´s möglich) by the local newspaper and the RWW (Rheinische Wasser Werk)

Link to the project:

Between August 13 - 30, people can vote for their favourite volunteer idea.

Two ways of voting are allowed: Postcard to the papers local office or EMAIL to:

subject line: Abstimmung Ehrenamtspreis (Poll Volunteer Prize)

text:  Ich stimme für  "Ukuleletrifft Alzheimer" (I vote for "Ukulele meets Alzheimer")

I’ve been posting some new clips on YouTube...take a look! If you’d like to play ‘Tangalooma Sunset’ yourself, I have notation available
